My Personal Transformations

Why Share These

I share these personal stories of some of the most significant transformations I've made over the years using the teachings I've resonated with, learned, and with the help of coaches I've worked with. Sharing these here as they might resonate with transformations you are looking for in your life, and hopefully inspire that it can be done, there is a path through whatever you are working with.

Sustainable Body Transformation

From Morbidly Obese to Triathlete and Bodybuilder

This is one of the deepest, oldest, longest transformations I've accomplished. I lived with so much body shame throughout my life. This journey has been full of struggles and so many joys. From being massively morbidly obese to being a triathlete and bodybuilder and many things in between.

For many years, my body felt like a prison, a place of shame and limitation. I carried the weight of unresolved grief and emotional pain, which manifested physically as significant weight gain. At my heaviest, I felt disconnected from myself, hiding behind layers of shame and societal judgments about my appearance. I avoided experiences I longed for, like kayaking or hiking, because I believed I didn’t deserve them or feared the judgment of others.

Through the teachings of loving-kindness and self-compassion, I began to shift my relationship with my body. The Buddhist concept of "basic goodness" taught me to see beyond the surface—to recognize the intrinsic worth and beauty in myself, regardless of external measures. This shift wasn’t about punishing my body or forcing change; it was about nurturing it with care, forgiveness, and patience. I incorporated mindfulness into my daily practices, paying close attention to how I treated myself physically and emotionally. This allowed me to break free from cycles of shame and embrace a new way of being.

As I embraced movement and activity again, I began to find joy in my body. What started as tentative steps—walking, stretching, and exploring small, manageable activities—grew into a full commitment to fitness and health. I learned to approach my body not as something to be fixed but as a partner in life, worthy of care and respect. Over time, I lost the physical weight, but more importantly, I shed the emotional burden of shame and self-rejection.

This transformation is not just about weight loss; it’s about reclaiming a sense of vitality, connection, and joy in living. For others who struggle with body image or feel trapped in cycles of shame, this journey demonstrates the power of compassionate self-acceptance and the teachings in this book. By shifting the focus from external judgments to internal kindness, we can create a foundation for lasting change—not just in how we look, but in how we live and feel.

From Depression, Anxiety & PTSD to Joy

Depression was a defining feature of my life for many years. It consumed me, often leaving me isolated, hopeless, and unable to engage with the world. For a long time, I believed that joy was something reserved for other people, not for someone like me. This cycle of despair felt insurmountable, but it wasn’t. Through the practices I share that I learned, I discovered a way out of the darkness.

One of the most significant shifts came when I began to practice mindfulness and meditation. These tools allowed me to observe my thoughts without becoming entangled in them. I started to see that my mind was not my enemy, but rather a misunderstood part of myself that needed care and attention. The teachings on loving-kindness became a lifeline, offering a way to cultivate compassion for myself even when I felt at my lowest. Slowly, the practice of gratitude began to open my eyes to small moments of beauty and connection that I had overlooked for so long.

I also learned to let go of the labels I had placed on myself, like "I am depressed." By loosening my identification with these narratives, I created space for new possibilities to emerge. Over time, joy began to seep into my life. At first, it was fleeting—a sunrise that took my breath away, a kind word from a stranger, the simple pleasure of being present in the moment. But as I nurtured these moments, joy grew more frequent and enduring.

This transformation taught me that joy isn’t the absence of struggle; it’s the ability to find light even in the midst of darkness. For those who feel trapped by depression, my journey offers hope and practical tools to begin the process of renewal. By cultivating mindfulness, self-compassion, and gratitude, it is possible to move from a place of despair to one of genuine, lasting joy.

Financial Transformation

I completely shifted my experience of money, and what it means. It started with a powerful exercise I did with a coach of mine where I burned money. I know it probably sounds terrible, but it was an absolutely transformative experience.

I was able to move from being in a lot of debt, living paycheck to paycheck, to being completely debt-free. And then started applying the conscious transformation teachings I describe here on my website to money and what I really wanted. I was able to create an abundance of money, to leave the job in San Francisco and to travel nomadically. It was a deeply powerful transformation around money.

I have then gone on to become a certified financial budgeting coach, with YNAB. I've worked with clients on money transformations, and incorporate both Buddhist, Law of Attraction and YNAB teachings together, since what happens with money shows up all around our lives, and vice versa.

From Technologist to Buddhist Teacher

For 20 years, I was immersed in the fast-paced world of high-tech innovation in San Francisco. I thrived as a technologist, contributing to groundbreaking advancements and living a life centered on success, possessions, and achievement. But despite the outward markers of success, I felt a persistent pull from within—a call to follow my heart. That calling grew louder until it became impossible to ignore.

I made the radical decision to give away most of my possessions, leave the stability of my high-tech career, and step into a completely unknown path. I embraced simplicity, not as an act of renunciation, but as a joyful opening to freedom.

I became a traveling nomad, living with only what could fit in a backpack and letting go of the structures that once defined me. This journey took me deeper into the practices of meditation and Buddhism, where I found the space to rediscover my essence. Along the way, I became a Buddhist teacher, a meditation guide, and a coach—not by design, but by a natural unfolding of purpose. I now dedicate my life to helping others transform their own struggles into thriving lives filled with meaning and connection.

This transformation is particularly relevant for those navigating major job changes, career shifts, or lifestyle redesigns. My journey offers guidance and practical insights for embracing uncertainty, making aligned choices, and creating a life that reflects your truest self. The simplicity and movement I embraced opened up vast opportunities to connect with people across the world, guiding them to unlock their potential and find their own version of joy and freedom.

Transforming Self-Esteem

For much of my life, my sense of self-worth was tied to external validation. I sought approval from others to feel "good enough," but this left me in a constant state of striving, with a fragile sense of esteem that could crumble at the slightest criticism. The teachings I encountered, particularly the concept of "basic goodness," shifted this foundation entirely. Instead of looking outward for validation, I began to cultivate a sense of worthiness that arose from within.

Mindfulness practices helped me recognize the patterns of self-criticism that had dominated my thoughts. I learned to meet these moments of judgment with kindness, understanding that my worth was not dependent on achieving perfection or meeting societal expectations. Loving-kindness meditations allowed me to connect with a deeper truth—that I was inherently worthy of love, simply because I existed.

As I integrated these teachings, I experienced a profound shift. I no longer needed others to affirm my value; I could hold that space for myself. This change didn’t happen overnight, but through consistent practice, I built a solid foundation of self-esteem that has supported me in every area of life. Today, I approach challenges and relationships from a place of confidence and inner stability, rather than fear of judgment or rejection.

For anyone struggling with self-esteem, this journey offers a path forward. By turning inward and embracing the practices of self-compassion, mindfulness, and loving-kindness, it’s possible to release the weight of external expectations and step into a life of authentic self-worth.

Spiritual Awakening

My spiritual awakening has been a tapestry of profound experiences, each one deepening my understanding of the nature of existence. It began as a quiet curiosity, but over time, it became a roaring fire that consumed every aspect of my life. I’ve experienced moments of total dissolution into collective consciousness, where the illusion of separateness dissolved completely. These awakenings were not just abstract insights; they were visceral, life-altering shifts that rewired the way I engage with the world.

One of the most significant awakenings occurred during a period of intensive practice, where I recognized the mind’s unity with emptiness and luminosity. This wasn’t a concept—it was a direct experience of the infinite, radiant nature of mind itself. Another pivotal moment came when I realized that loving-kindness is not just a practice but the very ground of existence. This recognition infused every interaction with a sense of purpose and connection.

These awakenings have also prepared me for a deeper role in the world. I’ve come to understand that the spiritual path is not just about personal liberation but about serving others. In today’s world, where uncertainty, division, and suffering are so pervasive, the spiritual path offers a vital antidote. It reconnects us to our innate wisdom and compassion, enabling us to face challenges with clarity and courage.

Through these experiences, I’ve become a guide for others navigating their own spiritual journeys. Whether through meditation, direct wisdom transmissions, or simply holding space for others, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of awakening ripple through the lives of those I work with. The path is alive, dynamic, and urgently needed in these times. It’s a call to remember who we truly are and to bring that knowing into the world as an act of love.

I'd love to see if we are a fit to work together

Getting on a call to connect with me isn't about "selling" you anything, that's not what I want or need. It's about seeing if we are genuinely a good fit to work together. If you're in the place where you need some guidance and help, and if you resonate with what you know about me so far, set up a call or send a message and let's see if there is a fit to do more. At the least we'll have some conversation, you'll get a dose of some good energy from me. And if we're not a fit there might be someone I know that can help you better, or point you towards other things you can check out.
